“Right to charge” legislation for NSW apartment buildings
The Strata Schemes Legislation Amendment (Miscellaneous) Bill 2025 passed the NSW Parliament last week. It included section 132D Installation of electric vehicle charging stations.
The section applies to the installation of an electric vehicle charging station on an owner’s lot, whether or not the installation also requires changes to, or work to be carried out on, the common property of the strata scheme.
In short, it sets out a “right to charge” pathway for apartment resident EV owners.
The Driven has written an article on the impact of the new legislation.
While this legislation won’t impact apartment buildings outside of NSW, it could be a forecast of things to come in other states or territories where the existing legislation is lacking.
