In the media: apartment Electrification
Over the last week, The Guardian published two articles which articulated the need to support apartment communities to electrify.
Coverage comes on the back of Victorian Government / City of Melbourne Research and featured the all the speakers from the High Life Expo Electrification seminar session. Allume’s recent win of 2026 Australian Good Design Awards is also mentioned.
Article 1: Complex issues: how to get your apartment block off gas – before it’s too late
“Electrifying your block of flats could cut emissions and save money. Don’t wait to plan the change. Around Australia, homes are getting off gas. Gas cooktops are being swapped for induction stoves, gas hot water replaced by heat pumps, and gas space heating with reverse cycle air conditioners.
In combination with solar panels, batteries and better insulation, electrification saves money, cuts emissions and makes homes healthier to live in.
Electrifying a freestanding house is often straightforward. Apartments are more challenging because you generally need your neighbours’ cooperation.”
Article 2: Three things the Albanese government could do right now to make people feel better off
Suggests that the Federal Government needs to help low-income households electrify and points to solar for apartment schemes as an important mechanism.
