City of Moonee Valley
In 2021, Council set up the Community Climate Emissions Reduction Reserve to support local projects that help cut carbon emissions across Moonee Valley.
These projects are part of Let’s Go Zero—Council’s program focused on working with our community to reduce emissions and take climate action together.
We support projects across a range of areas including:
switching to clean, renewable energy
waste reduction
supporting behaviour change and sharing information
getting around more sustainably
supporting greener buildings and spaces in our city.
Powering apartments with solar
Shared renewable energy
44% bill reduction
The 12-apartment building on Union Road, Ascot Vale got help from Council’s shared solar expert through the Solar for Apartment initiative, to install shared rooftop solar. The consultant assisted the body corporate to obtain $33,600 from the State Government's Solar for Apartments program to install rooftop solar. The impact is significant: each apartment is saving an estimated $267 annually on electricity bills, achieving a 44% reduction in costs, while collectively cutting 14.8 tonnes of CO₂ emissions every year.
Moonee Valley is a mostly residential area located between 4km and 13km north-west of the Melbourne CBD.
