The Victorian OC Act & Consumer Affairs Victoria

The Victorian Owners Corporation Act 2006 the primary legislation governing the management of multi-unit developments in Victoria, such as apartments and townhouses. It sets the legal framework for managing common property, maintaining buildings, resolving disputes, and outlining the rights of lot owners.

Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV) are Victoria's consumer regulator. It’s role is to help create a competitive and fair marketplace for businesses and consumers.

For apartment owners, committees, and renters CAV’s role is providing guidance to residents and managers, and facilitating dispute resolution to ensure the proper management of shared properties.

They have online resources which aim to make the OC Act easier to understand, and a support line open 9 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday (except public holidays). Call 1300 55 81 81.
